Mosaic, blur or solid box?
Mosaic pixelates the region into blocks, balancing privacy and looks. Gaussian blur softens the area and is great to blur a face online or a busy background. A solid box fully covers the area — the safest, non-reversible option for ID numbers and anything that must never leak. Adjust the mosaic block size and blur strength to taste.

What can I mosaic or blur?
Faces, license plates, ID numbers, addresses, home nameplates, bank card numbers, credit card numbers, ATM screens, monitor screens, background people in tourist photos. Anything you want a fixed rectangular region of the photo to be unreadable.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Mosaic runs entirely inside your browser with Canvas, so the original image never leaves your device. This matters because the original — which still contains the sensitive area — is exactly what you don't want a random server to keep a copy of.
Can someone reverse the mosaic and see what was underneath?
Not from a properly-sized mosaic or gaussian blur — the original pixel information is discarded. The exception is very light blur or very small pixel blocks over legible text, which can sometimes be partially recovered with modern models. Use a large pixel block or heavy blur for anything that has to stay unreadable.
Can I use this to hide license plates and ID numbers?
Yes — that's the primary use case for the solid-color-box and heavy-mosaic modes. Both remove the information rather than just obscure it visually. Prefer solid color box for anything that must be non-recoverable (ID numbers, bank cards).
What's the difference between mosaic and blur?
Mosaic replaces the region with large colored pixels — visually obvious that something has been hidden, and impossible to recover if the pixel size is big enough. Gaussian blur smoothly smears the pixels together — subtler look, but light blur over text can sometimes be partially reversed. For truly sensitive fields, solid color box (the third mode) is the strongest option.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Drag-to-select the mosaic region works on touch as well as mouse, so hiding a face or a screen in a photo you just took on the phone is a one-step operation without leaving the browser.
